Harderwijk has it all! A city beach with beach vibes, a beautiful forest in its backyard, historical squares stilled in time.
A brand-new museum in Harderwijk is dedicated to works by Marius van Dokkum, a contemporary Dutch artist. He illustrates, paints, draws and designs. His humorous works are especially popular: endearing scenes of ordinary people juggling with everyday tricky situations.
Many centuries ago, Harderwijk had a Hanseatic community, a university and a mint. Remnants from the past that have stood the test of time are one town gate called Vischpoort, parts of the town walls, former St. Catherine’s convent with a late-gothic chapel, the Great Church and many, many lovely 16th and 17th-century townhouses.
