Zuiderzeemuseum

This is where the IJsselmeer region shows its true face and tells its true story: at the Zuiderzeemuseum in the wonderful town of Enkhuizen.

A true story, relating the past, present and future of the IJsselmeer region. A story about communities, trades and water. A sea that brought devastation time and again; a sea that people depended upon to make a living.
National heritage, visual arts, photography and design all play a part in telling the stories. The museum is part indoor, part outdoor. The indoor museum offers themed exhibitions. The open-air museum is a collection of historical buildings taken from around the region and rebuilt here as a village of-old. Together they submerge you in the rich and unique culture of the IJsselmeer region.
The town of Enkhuizen is a tourist attraction in itself. Go for a stroll from the Dromedaris (a defensive tower from 1540) into the historical town center, and you will be thrown back in time, to its (in)famous past when it was a base for the Dutch East India Company.
